FAQ

Questions, answered straight.

Including the awkward ones. If an answer is "not yet" or "no", that is what it says.

Questions
Do I need to know how to garden?

No. The system loads a growing recipe when you scan a tray and manages light, water, nutrients and climate itself. Your part is inserting a tray, refilling water when asked, harvesting, and cleaning between cycles.

How long does a cycle take?

Roughly six to ten days depending on the crop, based on internal testing on current hardware. It varies with ambient conditions and the tray, so treat it as a range rather than a guarantee.

Is the app required?

Yes. Pairing, scanning trays, live view and alerts all happen in the app, and it is the control surface for the system. Core growing continues if your connection drops, but monitoring and scanning need the app.

What happens if a cycle fails?

Cycles can fail — uneven germination, a dry tray, a crop left past its window. The app names the problem, says whether it is urgent and gives the next step. If a tray smells sour, feels slimy or shows fuzzy growth on the stems, discard it, clean the surfaces and start again.

Can it prevent mould entirely?

No, and we will not claim otherwise. Controlling airflow, humidity and irrigation reduces the conditions mould needs, but this is a home appliance in a home. Cleaning between cycles is the habit that matters most.

Do I have to buy trays forever?

Growing continues only while you have trays, so yes — this is a consumable ecosystem. Trays are a single purchase with no subscription requirement at launch, and tray pricing is published before you buy a device.

How much space does it need?

The device is 17.6 in wide, 17.1 in deep and 17.4 in tall (44.6 × 43.5 × 44.2 cm), so it needs about the footprint of a large microwave on a standard counter — plus clearance in front to open the door, and a standard outlet nearby.

What about the cameras?

The cameras observe growing trays and power the live view and time-lapse. What is captured, how long it is kept, who can see it and how to disable features is documented in the app's privacy settings.

Is this a nutrition or health product?

It is a food-growing appliance. We publish research about microgreens with sources, and we are explicit about what has not been established. Nothing LUYA sells is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition.

When can I buy one?

Luya X-1 is pre-production. The Founder program is running cycles in real households now; general availability, pricing and regions publish with the shop.
