We like to describe Luya simply: it's the first food computer for your kitchen. Not a planter, not a gardening kit — a high-end appliance that reliably produces fresh, nutrient-dense microgreens with effectively zero effort. If you've ever wanted the freshness of just-harvested greens without the mold, mess, and daily babysitting of a DIY tray, this is what we built it for.

The problem Luya solves

Growing microgreens by hand has a real failure rate — mold, overwatering, and the simple fact that life gets in the way of daily care. Buying them is the opposite problem: expensive clamshells that are often days past harvest and wilting by the time you eat them.

Luya removes both. It isn't really a "growing" problem we set out to fix — it's a trust problem: giving you a system that delivers a clean, fresh harvest every cycle, whether or not you had a perfect week.

How it works, briefly

Luya is a countertop unit (about 17" tall — it fits under standard cabinets) with a transparent growing chamber and a minimalist design meant to look at home next to your coffee machine. Inside, it manages everything that makes microgreens succeed or fail:

  • Pre-seeded trays. Drop in a tray that arrives seeded at the right density and ready to grow — no measuring, no mess.
  • Automatic everything. Light, water, airflow, and precise temperature control are handled for you — the same variables that cause most hand-growing failures.
  • A sealed, climate-controlled chamber that keeps conditions stable and mold out.
  • A companion app so you can check on your greens from anywhere — even watch them grow on a live camera, and get a time-lapse video of the whole cycle at harvest.

The interaction is deliberately simple. The unit itself shows only a few status icons (growing, needs water, needs attention); everything else lives in the app. You set it up in minutes and let it run.

"Like a Nespresso, but for greens"

The comparison we keep coming back to is the coffee machine. Nobody roasts and grinds beans by hand every morning anymore — a good machine made great coffee effortless and repeatable. Luya aims to do the same for fresh greens: a tray in, a fresh harvest out, on a cycle of about 7–10 days, again and again.

And because you harvest only what you need, the rest keeps growing — alive — until you cut it. That's freshness no grocery clamshell can match, at a fraction of the per-serving cost.

Who it's for

Luya is built for people who care about what they eat and value good design and convenience — the kind of kitchen that already has a quality blender or espresso machine. If you want genuinely fresh, nutrient-dense greens as part of daily life, but don't want a new chore, that's exactly the gap Luya fills.

Fresh food, grown where you eat it, with none of the failure modes of doing it by hand. That's the idea.
